Our Green Story
Sunvale Homes is dedicated to not only building the safest and healthiest homes possible but also to ensuring that the environmental impact of constructing those homes is kept to an absolute minimum.
Our homes include a number of standard green features that help to ensure the safety and health of your family and also to reduce household energy costs. Some of these features include Low E Argon windows, high quality insulation (including in the basement), low flow toilets, high efficiency hot water heaters and much, much more.
Sunvale Homes is also concerned with reducing its own environmental impact and has taken steps to ensure that this goal is maintained and exceeded. We are proud to purchase many of our building materials from local sources, thus reducing transportation impacts on the environment. Also, excess building materials and waste are recycled.
Our Decor Centres are also located within our model homes to ensure that our homeowners do not have to waste time and gas traveling long distances to choose their features and finishes.
Sunvale Home's environmental programs can be divided into two categories: design, and construction.
The design aspect occurs prior to construction. Standard construction detailing for Sunvale Homes provides for 2" x 6" exterior wall construction to reduce thermal bridging and provide extra cavity space for insulation. All subflooring used is OSB plywood which is stronger than conventional plywood and is made from wood by-products and recycled wood thereby reducing forest consumption. Sunvale Homes come equipped with water saving toilets, low flow showerheads, water meters, high efficiency natural gas furnaces and water heaters, and drain water heat recovery devices, all of which contribute to lower energy use, cost and cleaner emissions.
The construction aspect of Sunvale's environmental programs begins with waste reduction and recycling programs on site for wood, asphalt shingles, drywall and insulation. Any resulting waste is separated and reused where possible and if not possible delivered to a recycling depot. Sunvale Homes has a strict engine idling policy to reduce energy use and emissions. LVL beams, OSB plywood, and asphalt roofing shingles were developed as environmentally friendly products.
Sunvale Homes is a certified Energy Star builder.
